State Director Kalani Werner and host Flash discuss the Jimmy Toledo Scholarship, contract proposals for the next round of collective bargaining agreements, Unit Elections, Division Officers, and State Officer Elections, and the fight for THP

In this episode of the United 808 podcast, State Director Kalani Werner joins host Flash to discuss various topics. They introduce the Jimmy Toledo Scholarship, available to member dependents starting this summer. The scholarship was created by the UPW Foundation in honor of Jimmy Toledo, and the application deadline is May 20th. They also highlight some fundraisers to support the scholarship fund, such as the Oahu Bingo Fundraiser on April 19th and the Golf Tournament on July 12th. Additionally, they mention the UPW Store as another way to contribute to the fund.

Moving on from the scholarship, they discuss the Unit 1 & Unit 10 Contract proposals for the next round of collective bargaining agreements, which will begin on July 1st, 2025. The deadline to submit proposals is April 30th, 2024. They also provide updates on unit elections, division officers, and state officer elections, which are all coming up at the end of this year.

Finally, State Director Werner provides an update on the fight for Temporary Hazard Pay, a long-standing grievance against the employer for contractually owed payments. Several jurisdictions are heading to arbitration in hopes of a final resolution.
