Aloha Brothers & Sisters,
The United Public Workers is a proud Union with 13,000 members throughout the State of Hawaii. We are fighters; the first line of defense in protecting the core infrastructure of our communities during this unprecedented health crisis. Our job functions have determined us to be essential in stopping the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Our local media has sparked clamor and controversy over comments regarding “public employee pay cuts.” I assure you that for UPW, our contract negotiations occur at the bargaining table, and not in the public forum. This allows for the voices of our members to be heard loud and clear by the Employer group without outside chatter. Any decisions on pay or other conditions of work will appropriately occur at the bargaining table by the members elected to the UPW negotiating committee, subject to ratification by the membership.
