Message from State Director Dayton M. Nakanelua

Our Union Our Family, Health and Wellness 1st

I have great confidence in the members of UPW to be guided by “doing the right thing” when it comes to fulfilling our part in light of the unprecedented crisis we face today.

In our history, we have shown that when our communities need our Kokua, we step-up and meet that challenge. We don’t stop to ask, “Is this my job?”, instead we question, “What more can I do?” Without waiting to be called upon to respond to natural disasters, like tsunami warnings, hurricanes, or volcanic eruptions, we were there! We know how to take care of each other and our communities.

In that spirit, I call upon each of us once again to rise up. Together, demonstrate the pride we have in the work we do in safe-guarding and protecting our state.  Due to the dynamic and fluid nature of responding to the coronavirus pandemic, we must be flexible, amiable and committed to effectively answer the call to duty.

We are prideful in performing our daily work and our rightful expectation that worker dignity prevails in the workplace.

We know our work culminates and secures the core infrastructure of our communities throughout the state.

Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ‘ina I ka pono. Let us move forward with this mantra. It is who we are.

We don’t just display “Pride in Public Service.” We live it.

Our Union, Our Family

Malama Pono,

Dayton M. Nakanelua
