To assist current stewards facing new challenges in the workplace and continue onboarding new stewards, UPW is offering free online training! Stewards who are interested in participating can register online by clicking on the buttons below each training session. Thursday, August 27 from 5:30 – 7:00pm Today’s global pandemic has created some unique challenges for stewards and union activists. Join us as we explore and find new ways to activate our locals, support our members and build a stronger labor movement. Join us to identify the best ways to represent members in a tumultuous environment; create support structures and a pro-active working environment for our members; adopt tactics to increase union activism; and turn threats into opportunities for union building. Thursday, September 3 from 5:30 – 7:00pm This is the first session of the “Stewards in Action” training series. Part 1 gives an overview of steward roles and responsibilities, what it takes to build power in the workplace, and Weingarten Rights. This training is recommended for new stewards and stewards at all levels who need a refresher! Thursday, September 10 from 5:30 – 7:00pm This training is for stewards who are ready to learn or refresh their skills handling grievances. This training will prepare stewards to know the definition of a grievance, identify the five steps of grievance processing, and use the grievance process to uphold the collective bargaining agreement. Thursday, September 17 from 5:30 – 7:00pm This training will dive deeper into investigating grievances; documenting grievances; and writing grievances. Get ready for some hands-on experience in a supportive environment to put what you are learning into practice!
