Political Action is the way which we “encourage the fullest participation in the democratic processes of our community and our nation in order to help assure honest government responsible to the people. To support and encourage the members’ interest in world as well as national and local events, since events throughout the world affect the people of Hawaii.

The M.O.V.E. is UPW’s political plan of action. According to Webster’s Dictionary, “Move is to advance from one place to another; altering positions; act or be active.” M.O.V.E. contains the four essential elements needed to win elections, affect legislation, and make a difference in our community.


Volunteers are asked to provide assistance for one hour. If you sign up to volunteer on this website or at a Section 8 meeting, we may call to check your availability for sign waving, phone banking, canvassing, or various events.

What does a Political Action Committee (PAC) do?

The UPW PACs work to interview and endorse candidates and are active in UPW’s other political activities.

Who are the PAC members?

Division PAC members are UPW members that are part of the Division Executive Board. State PAC members include the State President, State Secretary-Treasurer, State Director and Division Vice-Presidents. For more information, please see the UPW Constitution.

  • June 24, 2020 all day. Deadline for Clerk’s Offices to mail ballots to overseas voters.
  • July 9, 2020 @ 4:30 p. m. Deadline to register for Primary Election.
  • July 21, 2020 all day. Voters begin to receive Primary Election mail ballot packet.
  • July 27, 2020 – August 7, 2020 Early voting. (In person Absentee voting not available)
  • August 1, 2020 @ 4:30 p.m. Deadline for registered voters to request an absentee ballot.
  • AUGUST 8, 2020 @ 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 pm. PRIMARY ELECTION

Voting by Mail

What is Vote by Mail?

Act136, SLH 2019 implements all elections be conducted by mail. The law removes using polling places where voters cast their ballots on election day, and instead a ballot is automatically mailed to registered voters.

How do I vote?

You must be a registered voter to receive a ballot. Your Clerk’s Office will mail your ballot packet approximately 18 days before the election.

Once you have voted your ballot, simply place the ballot in the secrecy sleeve ensuring your right to secrecy, and then place into the return envelope. Be sure to sign the return envelope. A return envelope without a signature will not be counted. The return envelop is postage paid via the U.S. Postal Service and addressed to your Clerk’s Office.

You may return your voted ballot: by mail, or in-person at a designated place of deposit. All ballots must be received by the Clerk’s Office by Election Day. Post marks do not count! (A separate list of places of deposit will be sent to all PAC members).

What if I did not receive my ballot?

Ballot packets are mailed to all properly registered voters approximately 18 days before the election. If you do not receive your ballot packet, contact you Clerk’ s Office. (See addresses below).

What if I make a mistake on my ballot?

If you make a mistake, misplace, or damage your ballot, you may request for a replacement ballot with your Clerk’s Office.

Will my vote still count if I did not vote on all measures and/or candidates?

Yes, your ballot will still be counted.

Can I change my mind after I have returned the Ballot?

No. Once you return your ballot and is received by the Clerk’s Office, it is considered cast and you will not be able to receive a new ballot.

Why do I have to sign the return ballot envelope?

Your signature on the return envelope enables election officials to verify you as a voter. The signature you provide on the return ballot envelope is verified against the signature on file in your voter registration record. If you do not sign your return ballot envelope, your ballot will not be counted.

How can I receive my ballot if I am on vacation or away a college?

Voters who will be away during the election may request for their ballot to be mailed to another address. Simply complete a one-time absentee application and indicate where you would like your ballot to be mailed to.

Can I still vote in person?

Yes, you may vote in-person by visiting any voter service center in your county. Voter service centers are open 10 days through election Day for in-person voting, same day registration and accessible voting.

Register to Vote

If you don’t register online, you can:

  • Complete a voter registration form at the next Section 8 meeting and UPW will submit it to the Office of Elections for you.
  • Download a copy of the registration form from the Office of Elections website and mail it in.
  • Voter registration forms are available at all UPW offices throughout the State.
