Dear UPW Ohana,
It’s been about two months since UPW was placed under administratorship and I want to give you an update on the work of your union these past few weeks, as we strive to strengthen UPW and protect public services and your jobs.
I was hoping the restrictions on neighbor island travel and large gatherings would be lifted so I could meet you face-to-face at Section 8 meetings. Unfortunately, our coronavirus count is going up and it appears it may be a while before I can meet with you. We are exploring ideas such as having Section 8 tele-townhall meetings where members would call a toll-free number, and we are open to your suggestions as to how we can better communicate with you.
We are also in the process of updating the UPW website. There is now a complete staff directory that includes contact information so you can reach your business agent. You can find it under the “About UPW” tab on the website’s toolbar. Visit upwhawaii.org to learn more, and, while you’re there, be sure to sign up for the UPW email list to receive the most up-to-date information.
I encourage you to read through the next Malama Pono newsletter or UPWHawaii.org to learn more about the work of your union, and I hope to meet each of you soon.
